Event Report: Press Café - Active Citizenship Tackling EU and International Crises – World Solidarity Forum

International conflicts and refugee crisis as well as economic inequality in the EU have been some of the key challenges fuelling political divisions in the European Union. As complex realities continue to emerge, it is increasingly challenging to find find a common vision and response.

The networking discussion gathered representatives from academia, NGOs and media to discuss the role active citizens can take in shaping European policies. It offered open space to present social initiatives and find partners and members.

The Press Café is part of a Networking series where each participant has the opportunity to join a discussion circle of their interest. Rotation will take place every 20 minutes, enabling the participants to take part to three different thematic tables.

– The role of Youth Empowerment and the UN in crisis solving (Emoke Peter, European Parliament)

– Challenging Fortress Europe: moving towards better migration policies (Guy Janssen, DIEM25)

– The role of diaspora in supporting development & empowerment (Bora Kamwanya, ACP Young Professionals Network)

The audience was invited to share their insights on what they have learned and to propose ideas on what is to be done. The session was followed by a round of networking drinks.
